FAQs
Do I Qualify for Wireless Internet Access?
CAWinet has wireless access points throughout the Lehigh Valley. Upon request, we will dispatch a technician to perform a site survey and determine your ability to receive high-speed internet access. We let you know your maximum bandwidth capability and about any potential installation issues. If we can’t immediately serve your needs, ask us about options to build a link to you. Our goal is to get you the service you demand.
How Secure is my Wireless Connection?
CAWinet maintains a secure network through the use of best security practices and secure technology. Wireless Broadband transmits and receives data using frequency hopping technology over a broad spectrum of frequencies, but with a narrow beamwidth. It also encrypts all data using a proprietary algorithm. Wireless Broadband Internet access is as secure as the wired version.
How Fast can I Go?
We maintain a redundant fiber optic connection to the internet that is scalable upon demand. The speeds we offer to you depend on the plan you choose, but you may burst to rates much higher than your minimum guaranteed rate. We offer service from 256kbps to 200Mbps, and these rates leave dialup, cable and DSL access in the dust.
What are the Advantages of Wireless over DSL or Cable?
CAWinet Wireless Access provides managed, dedicated bandwidth to business users with full 24/7 technical support. DSL and Cable modem access is limited by distance from the telco central office or nearest repeater. Both services suffer from poor support by overextended technical staffs, which are less familiar with IP services than with voice or cable TV offerings. Because of these limitations, neither DSL nor Cable provides a suitable internet connection for business use.
Does weather affect my service?
Weather, other than lightning, has a minimal effect on the quality of wireless internet service. When we install the antenna we orient it to receive the maximum level of signal, giving you a margin of error to overcome signal loss during periods of heavy precipitation or icing.
Do I need to worry about lightning?
Lightning is always a threat to electronic equipment and radio frequency facilities. We maintain superior lightning protection and power backup facilities for all of our access points. While we ground all client installations according to vendor specifications, we recommend additional lightning protection and battery backup of client equipment.
How do I share my Internet Connection between multiple computers?
For Residential and Basic Commercial Service clients, we recommend purchasing a firewall/router. Otherwise, one computer with two network cards can be configured to share the connection with other computers. At your request and at an additional cost, CAWinet can design, install and configure a network that will serve your needs and provide the support you demand.
